Dealing with Seasonal Depression

As the time has changed, there also is a change that sometimes occurs in our moods that causes seasonal depression. 

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), commonly known as seasonal depression, is a type of depression that occurs at certain times of the year, typically during the fall and winter months when daylight hours are shorter. It affects many individuals, leading to feelings of sadness, lethargy, and a general disinterest in daily activities. In this blog, we’ll explore the causes, symptoms, and effective coping strategies for seasonal depression.

Here are some of the common symptoms of seasonal depression:


- Persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness
- Loss of interest in activities once enjoyed
- Changes in appetite or weight
- Sleep disturbances (insomnia or oversleeping)
- Difficulty concentrating
- Fatigue or low energy
- Social withdrawal

If you notice some of the symptoms happening here are some ways to cope with them to help you through this season:

1.Regular Exercise: Physical activity can boost mood and energy levels. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.

2. Healthy Diet: Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can help improve overall well-being.

3. Stay Connected: Social support is vital. Make an effort to connect with friends and family, even if it’s through virtual means.

4.Seek Professional Help:  If symptoms persist or worsen, consider consulting a mental health professional who can provide therapy or medication options.

5. Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques:  such as yoga, meditation, and deep-breathing exercises can help manage stress and improve mood. Lighting a candle made with sage or lavender can help with relaxation.
